How to treat blackheads

This is about blackhead treatment. Blackhead, usually known as open comedo, is a type of acne vulgaris. That blackish bump or plug on the skin is caused by a hormone named testosterone which stimulates the sebaceous glands of the skin to enlarge, produce oil, and plug the pores. Testosterone is a hormone which is present in males and females, increases during puberty.

Actually, the body often removes blackheads itself without any complications. But if you feel not comfortable with your blackheads because of its bad looking and that make you up set, you need blackhead treatment. Untreated acne can develop to be permanent scars; these cause you need your dermatologist help in the future. So come to your dermatologist and ask for his/her advises.

These are about your blackhead treatment you may have according to its severity:

1. To help unblock the pores your dermatologist may give you prescribe topical cream/gel/lotion contains Retinoid, Benzoyl peroxide, or salicylic acid. They all called chemical peels.

2. Plugged pores can become a place where bacteria growth. To reduce bacteria your dermatologist will give you antibiotics.

3. If you have just a little area of blackheads like an area around your nose that blackheads can remove with a pore cleansing strip. It is a blackhead strip – an adhesive, tape-like strip which is adhered to the nose and removed about ten minutes later.

4. Acne surgery is a special treatment that may be used by your dermatologist to remove your blackheads. To extract blackheads, dermatologist uses a sterile pen-sized device.

Besides your dermatologist help, these are some tips for you to become your ongoing process in your blackhead treatment so you can prevent new acne breakouts:

1. It is not true if many people believe that blackheads primarily caused by dirt or poor hygiene, but blackhead or other acne treatments do not work without washing your face! So it is best to wash your face with a mild cleanser and water daily. Do not washing too often or too vigorously. Your acne may worse.

2. It is better to wear as little cosmetics as possible. Choose oil-free, water-based, moisturizers and make-up. Use non comedogenic products, because they should not cause blackheads. Do not forget to remove your cosmetics every night with mild soap or gentle cleanser and water.

3. Most people believe that some food can cause acne. Truly, acne is not caused by foods. But if certain foods seem to make your acne worse, try to avoid them.
