Should We Rethink About Aspirin?

Filed under: EATING DISORDERS — Tags: — admin @ 12:16 pm

Aspirin? – Yes, Do you think you should take to prevent heart attack and stroke, right??
Well……perhaps. A  meta-analysis, done recently  shows that being overzealous about aspirin use for prevention of initial heart attack and stroke may be unsubstantiated.
In this meta analysis, specifically 95,000 subjects were evaluated, producing 1671 vascular events in the aspirin group and 1883 in the control group.

Aspirin was associated with an absolute reduction of 0.06% heart-related events per year. Correspondingly, aspirin did not significantly reduce ischemic stroke risk, but researchers noted a borderline-significant increase in hemorrhagic stroke. Aspirin also increased the incidence of bleeding outside the brain. Overall, aspirin was not associated with a significant reduction in vascular death.

What does this  mean? The advantages of aspirin in low risk patients are scant. As cardiovascular risk factors (like smoking, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, family history of early stroke/heart attack) pile up, aspirin gains a bit more support, though there is a modest associated bleeding risk.
We will be following this data and it’s analysis further. In the meantime, it may be reasonable to discuss things with your doctor, or perhaps cut aspirin dosing to the appropriate lowest dose (81mg in most patients).

Is there a role of exercise in treating eating disorders

Filed under: EATING DISORDERS — admin @ 1:40 am

Should I do it? Is exercise really necessary? We’ve have seen many people just stop eating or loose weight with things such as weight loss surgery and diet pills, without ever going to the gym. So where does exercise fit into the equation of loosing weight safely?

Actually, whether you’re overweight or not, exercise is crucial! For starters: God made us to move. Most of us have the ability to actively use our bodies in one way or another. In recent years exercise have become associated with weight loss or weight control, but that’s just one of the many benefits of regular exercise.

Here are a handfull of more:

– Exercise helps keep depression at bay or at least lessen depression for those who need medication. Although you get treated for depression most doctors will encourage you to also make time for exercise.|

– Exercise has been known to help you sleep better at night, depending you don’t exercise too close to bed time.

– There are a lot of health benefits associated with exercise. To mention only a few: It lowers bad cholesterol and blood pressure. It also helps prevent heart conditions.|

– Certain exercises can strengthen your back muscles and thus reduce the possibility of injuries to your back. If you’ve suffered from a sore back before, you know that this is a great benefit.|

– Systematic exercise enhances your immune system, thus protecting your body from viruses.|

– When a subject is diagnosed with type II diabetes, exercise and weight control are prescribed as measures to help with insulin resistance.|

– Exercise can keep you looking and feeling younger! Exercise slows the aging process, because of increased blood flow to all the organs, as well as muscles. (Sorry to interfere but there is review about Ejaculation Trainer by Matt Wutzke by the author of this post. I think you should look at it)

– Exercise is a huge self esteem booster!|There are many more benefits to exercise…

So why don’t we do it? Lots of people, and more so those who have food related struggles, have thrown exercise into the binge and diet cycle. When we diet, we exercise and when we binge we don’t. So it has become an enemy instead of the friend that it can be to our bodies.I have personally seen in many program for women with eating disorders , a whole week is devotted to exercise. We talk candidly about the benefits, but also the difficulty in actually getting yourself to do it. I myself have personally experienced it.Come see how you can think outside the box when it comes to exercise and make it something to be enjoyed again, instead of something you fear and even hate.

Tips on stopping food cravings

Filed under: EATING DISORDERS — admin @ 1:20 am

Food cravings are one of the critical, cultured forms of addiction and compulsive behavior that are very difficult to discern.  For us,it is pretty much acceptable to have an addiction when it comes to food.  We all have them and we all treat people with this particular addiction (addiction to food) entirely different to someone who is addicted to alcohol or other drugs.Whereas someone who craves alcohol would be encouraged to seek help, those of us who crave sugary snacks are often – if not all the time – encouraged to indulge in our addictions.  And if we don’t indulge we will often hear the retort “Why to deprive yourself?”.”One isn’t going to hurt your diet”.

The foods that are frequently craved give no nutritional benefit to you and can cause and contribute to a number of different health conditions like excess weight and diabetes.  Why would you want to eat those foods other than for comfort and pleasure? You wouldn’t! It is your addiction to them that makes you eat them.Food has the power to control you in this way.  Sugar, salt and foods laced with fat are emotionally and physically addictive.

In order to rid yourself of these substances from your life, the first step is to admit there is a problem.  This is a very difficult thing for you to do, especially when you think you are eating that sandwich out of hunger.Control has been established  inside you. Even if there is an intense desire to lose weight or a bad habit, there is often failure and discouragement. So as stated you must admit the issue. Now, once you have admitted it and reached a decision that these cravings are not good for you and you DEFINITELY want to give them up for good, you need to COMPLETELY REFUSE to consider them for even a second longer from that moment on.Once you know what you must avoid (sugar, chocolate, coffee whatever it is) and what you must do to improve your health, you should start observing and be attentive to the thoughts that pass through your mind. Just as soon as you become aware that you desire some chocolate or any other food which you have chosen not to eat anymore, as that very moment dismiss it. Completely refuse to give it another second’s thought.|You must be alert at this time, though because quickly the thought can arouse emotion in you and this can result in you becoming weak or inattentive to your decisions. You will find, you start trying to rationalize having that desire food and get caught up in your feelings.Don’t play with this desire! But don’t struggle with it. If you try to use willpower to force it out of the mind it will just accentuate it and make it stronger.

Just simply drop the thought from your attention – get on with a chore, distract yourself essentially. Give this other subject/activity your FULL attention and stay fully immersed in it until you have calmed down.Emotions are much stronger than reason – we tend to rationalize the irrational when we are caught up in then and can talk ourselves into anything. This is dangerous, so don’t play with them just divert your attention. This is one of the first and most crucial steps to being free – Your Fat Freedom is possible but you must have self-awareness if you want to be rid of cravings for good.

Simple Ways to Deal With Emotional Eating

Filed under: EATING DISORDERS — admin @ 12:49 am

Are you one of those who are eating because they are bored, depressed or stressed ? Then you are binge eating, engaging in emotional eating.                                                                                                                                                                          Why is it important to stop emotional eating?                                                                                                                                                    The number one reason why you must stop emotional eating is that it leads to weight gain overtime. A binge can last for short as hours, days or even as long as weeks and months at a time. Binge eating is not good for any one who has lost weight and trying to maintain their current weight or those who are still trying to lose weight. This article will help you know how to stop binge eating.|

The first most important thing to do if you must stop binge eating is to get rid of unhealthy junks from your home. One thing you should know is that there is no way you can eat those unhealthy junks if you don’t have them handy therefore fill your home with healthy and nutritious foods such as fruits and vegetables. But if you are one of those who are depressed and find solution to depression through binge eating, then eat healthy foods only in order to avoid gain more unwanted extra pounds.

Another way to stop emotional eating is keeping all foods in the kitchen and out of sight. The point is, the more you see foods, the more likely you are to feel hungry. Many people binge eat mainly because they don’t pay close attention to know when they are truly hungry or not. Many people who find fun in keeping a bag of chips on their laps or close by while eating will find out that before they know it, the whole bag is gone. The simple reason is that their mind was occupied by the television program which is why it is very important to always keep all foods out of reach if you must stop emotional eating.|

Another powerful way to stop emotional eating is drinking more water. It is important that you drink between 8-12 glasses of water daily. Drinking say 10 glasses of water daily will help fill you stomach and also help you deal with false hunger – which leads to binge eating. You don’t have to drink 8-12 glasses at once, just spread it throughout the day. Drink more plenty of water between and after meals. One thing you should take note of is that you can not replace water with soda, water is got to be water. Drink water only and not soda.|Boredom or depression leads to binge eating. My suggestion is, whenever you find yourself idle and suddenly feel hungry ( false hunger), find something to get yourself busy and before you know it the false hunger will disappear thereby saving you from binge eating. You can walk out with a friend, play games or read – point is, get busy and the false hunger will disappear.|If you are one of those who find themselves in stressed or emotional state, then find something better and healthier than eating to deal with your pain. You may also talk to a counselor in order to identify the main problem and design a way to solve the problem. Binge eating anytime you are stressed or emotionally disturbed, then you are forming an habit that will at the end become more deadly than you can ever imagine. Don’t be one of those who whenever they find themselves binge eating tell themselves, I will stop binge eating when I am no longer stressed or emotional.|

People who binge are those who lack self control – do you have to be one of them? Always know that it is only you and you alone that can tell yourself to eat and it is also you and you alone that can stop yourself from binge eating. If you are seriously concerning about putting your weight under control then you must develop a serious mindset, a will power to stop binge eating.

Eating disorders have become quite

common now-a-days.Reasons for it are very

numerous. The disease shows a greater

prevalence among girls than boys and

mostly teenagers.
When we say that the person is

suffering from ailment “anorexia’ it

actually is that she is suffering from

anorexia nervosa. These persons have lost

their appetite for some psychological

reasons.Although in true sense this is

not the fact because they are hungry.

Instead, they try to control their hunger

by sheer will power. The person suffering

from anorexia will show extreme

weightloss as they restrict their diet.

Laxative abuse is also very common and by

doing excessive exercise to try to lose

weight they become more sick. The most

dangerous part for people suffering from

this condition is that in spite of

extreme weight loss, they are terrified

of becoming fat or gaining weight even

The  eating disorders commonly

develop partly due to some difficult life

experiences which may be some kind of

abuse during childhood or fear or social

pressures arising in puberty and in

growing up.Sometimes genetic factors too

play a vital role in acquiring this

condition. If someone in the family like

the mother or any cousin  is suffering

from anorexia then there is a chance that

the person may acquire it.A doctor plays

a very important role to diagnose the

illness and any other symptoms associated

with it. But as this ailment is basically

a psychological matter, mental health

professionals need to be consulted.

Persons suffering from anorexia may also

have to be admitted to the hospitals to

help him/her regain the weight which

he/she may have lost.Psychological and

cause of the illness and then only can
